About Us

We are a coalition of people from many organizations in Iowa who have historical and personal interest in the events in Iowa that led up to the 19th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, giving women the right to vote. We believe that the 100th anniversary of key events in our state should not go un-noted and uncelebrated!

Our 1908 parade was a fully sanctioned event in conjunction with the Annual Convention of the Iowa Equal Suffrage Association. If not the first such parade, it was certainly one of the first. [Some notes on the controversy.]

At any rate, we are planning to reenact the parade in costume with participants playing the parts of key figures in the event. As in the earlier event, two organizations, the Boone County Historical Society and the First Unitarian Church of Des Moines/Unity Circle, are the primary organizers. [In 1908, the Boone Equality Club and Iowa Equal Suffrage Association, precided by Rev. Gordon of the First Unitarian Church.] All the organizers are listed below.
